A gift card is a prepaid plastic card or electronic voucher that can be used as an alternative to cash for purchases at participating stores or related businesses. Gift cards are one of the most popular gifting items in America for major holidays. While also used by retailers and marketers as part of a promotion strategy. Gift cards are generally redeemable only for purchases at the participating stores and in some cases, may contain an expiration date or be subject to fees. 

Common types of gift cards include Starbucks, Best Buy, and Nordstrom, which are most often purchased directly from retailers or supermarkets.
